Slope Scene - Slope Scene

AVB put me onto a small slope about 10 minutes from home, it takes a NNE to NE wind. I flew the Stepp Up and had around an hour or so airborne. I'll be back to run some other models up there.
There is only the high voltage power lines to contend with, but thankfully these are on the west side on the slope and out of harms way.

Stepp 3 PDF Print E-mail
Thermal Scene - Thermal Scene
Written by Paul Craig

I have almost completed my Stepp 3, this 3 meter thermaller was designed bike Mike O'reilly and was one of the leading RES models in its day. The fibre glass fuselage that was released in the later kits made it a little more attractive to modellers. With the Stepp Up it was the wing design that changed.

Sailplane Building - ASW-27

I had the foam cockpit made a few weeks ago, so now it was time to get is fibreglassed. It was too difficult, just a little tricky getting the right amount of resin for the job. Its come out rather well, but then i thought lets acetone the foam after it dryed, hmmmmmm smart move that was. Now i have the job of using glaze to smooth it out again. Nuts!

And if that wasnt the only issue, using the glaze it straed to dry quick, now i have headp of sanding ahead of me. Bugger!

Reaper done, just waiting for the 'Craig' to get me some fluro vinyl to cover a wing so we can see this thing on the slope. TOYOTA and Slopefun.com stickers via Mr Craig. Toyota is on the bottom, large black text.

Covered in profilm, never going back to tape, real easy to place on and gives it better strength. AUW came up at 870grams, I really hope this isn't too heavy as Paul's really got going at Mt Mee.

Lets hope this thing can perform in lighter conditions that Paul's reaper.

Sailplane Building - Sagitta XC

Right hand wing started, the spar system is 99% done. I'm changing tack from the original plans, they use a joiner system from in poly break. I'm going to make this a two piece wing rather than 4. I have space in the car for it and i think the less weight in that section of the wing will stop sag. If i'm wrong well, back to building a new set of wings for her.

Filler Root of Wing PDF Print E-mail
Sailplane Building - ASW-27
Written by Steve Copelin

Droped down to the local car body shop to get some glaze, or its really called fine filler. The stuff is really workable, easy sanding etc, but it goes of real quick, so small sections at a time need to be done.
I taped off the sections to be done.

First stage of the build up was to fill the void with balsa and micro balloons. I'll grab some glaze putty to re-shape the curve.
